Sugar Maple Tree (Acer saccharum). A new set of stock photos by Ernie Hunter Economically important as both a maple syrup and a lumber producer, the leaf of the Sugar Maple is on the Canadian Flag and it is the official state tree of New York. Sugar maple is monoecious; having both male and female blossoms on one tree. The seed or fruit, a Samara is double winged. Leaves are dark green on top and lighter on bottom. They turn brilliant reds,oranges and yellows in fall. Wood is one of the hardest and used for floors pool cues bowling balls etc. Good shade tree. View more stock photography from Ernie Hunter here.
