Sir John A MacDonald Canada's Frist Prime Minister. A new set of stock photos by Ernie Hunter Sir John A MacDonald 1815 - 1891 was a delegate to the Intercolonial Conferences of 1864 - 1867 at which the basis was laid for the Federal Union of the British North American Provinces in a new nation. He was called the Father of Confederation and was the First Prime Minister of Canada. He promoted the westward expansion of the railroad making it Transcontinental.
