Bittersweet Nightshade Solanum dulcamara. A new set of stock photos by Ernie Hunter Bittersweet nightshade a perennial vine found in backyards, along edges of fields, ditches, streams and wetlands, thriving in moist soil. Berries are egg shaped, red when ripe. It is not the same plant as Deadly Nightshade but is poisonous and should not be eaten. Leaves are dark green to purplish green with two small ear-like lobes near the base. Flowers are purple, star shaped with petals bending backwards. Stamens are fused in a prominent yellow cone in the center. Spreads by seeds and roots. View more stock photography from Ernie Hunter here.
