North America Driftless Area photos. A new set of stock photos by Clint Farlinger The "driftless area" lies in a relatively small area in portions of Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. During the last ice age glaciers split leaving this area near the Mississippi in great contrast to the surrounding flat prairie land. This area is sometimes referred to as the Paleozoic Plateau.
