Sherborne Old Castle Dorset - (1). A new set of stock photos by Michaela Perryman Sherborne Old Castle was first built by Robert, Bishop of Salisbury in early 12th century and had a tower in each corner. It was used as a palace but later fell into decay and mostly demolished after a long seige during the Civil War. Sir Walter Raleigh was given the Sherborne Estates in 16th Century and started to modernise it, before giving up and building a new castle which is still in use on another part of the estate. Dorset.
