<p>Planting Sugar Cane Central Queensland.. A new collection of stock images from Fred Frith. Sugar cane billets are obtained from a standard or modified harvester and are basically stalks of cane cut into lengths about 250 to 300 mm. These lengths are then loaded into a bin on a mechanised planter attached to a tractor. As the planter moves down the row the billets are dropped into a trench with water fertiliser and insecticide and are then covered and tamped. Two workers are needed, o...
