Ash Wednesday, Victoria, February 1983. A new set of stock photos by Kim House The Ash Wednesday bushfires, were a series of bushfires that occurred in south-eastern Australia on 16 Feb 1983. Within twelve hours, nearly 200 fires fanned by winds of up to 110 km per hour (68 mph) caused widespread destruction across the states of Victoria & Sth Australia. Previous years of severe drought & extreme weather combined to create one of Australia's worst fire days in a century. The fires became the deadliest bushfire in Australian history, until the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009. View more stock photography from Kim House here.

Polar Bears - Individuals. A new set of stock photos by Carole-Anne Fooks At the beginning of November each year about 800 Polar Bears gather at Churchill, Canada, on the shores of Hudson Bay waiting for the big freeze so they can go hunting over the winter. They have been fasting for about 8 months. Due to global warming the arctic is freezing less and later each year making it more and more difficult for the Polar Bears to get enough food. Present science indicates that the population will be decimated in about 30 years time unless there is dramatic change. View more stock photography from Carole-Anne Fooks here.
